I currently work as a Senior systems Engineer for a Cambridgeshire-based MSP. My role as Senior Systems Engineer is split between two main focuses. First is providing escalation expertise for our support team. My second major focus is the planning and implementation of small and large-scale infrastructure and cloud projects for our clients.

 

Business

I have considerable experience designing, planning, and implementing client solutions, from on-premise to the cloud. Including a detailed understanding of managing IT budgets, departmental responsibilities, implementation and management of ISO 27001 processes and accreditation, as well as mentoring and supervising team members.

I am at ease during face-to-face client meetings and build excellent client relationships, including working with other teams – often alongside clients – to provide the most efficient cost-benefits for their products. I possess a detailed understanding of Azure, cloud, on-premise, and datacentre licensing, including hardware, and software licensing.

I have proven experience working in high-pressure, fast-paced MSP businesses with over 6-years at a senior technical level. I have extensive experience building, administration, and usage of Autotask, ConnectWise, Continuum, and Datto products in enterprise and MSP environments.

I also possess considerable expertise in the management and use of BitDefender GravityZone, SentinelOne, Webroot, CryptoPrevent, Sophos and many other security and enterprise-level products such as Microsoft 365, AWS, Google Workspace, Datto’s product stack, IT Glue, Autotask, Perimeter 81, Smoothwall, Watchguard, Palo Alto, Bitdefender, Sentinel One, ThreatLocker, Addigy, DNS Filter and Unifi cloud.

 

Project Management Experience

My particular speciality is planning, management and delivery of infrastructure, full site refreshes and Office 365 migrations from on-premise and cloud-based solutions into Office 365. I have in-depth experience with the management and delivery of numerous concurrent projects and I pride myself on ensuring each is delivered on time, to the deliverables agreed upon with minimal disruption.

 

Servers

Planning (full life cycle) and provisioning and roll-out of bespoke and highly-available Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS cloud solutions, complex clustered server environments (on-premise, cloud, datacentre), client migrations, and extensive experience providing senior-level 3rd line support.

I have expert knowledge encompassing the full remit of administration, backup (BDR, cloud/local), hardware diagnostics/upgrades, update/patch management of Windows Server 2008-2022, and a mix of Red Hat/CentOS and Ubuntu Linux.

 

Virtualisation and Cloud

Extensive expertise in designing, building, implementing, migrating from on-premise to cloud migration projects and troubleshooting VMware and Hyper-V on Windows Server 2008-2022, using Windows and Linux guests, including complex clustered Azure, cloud, datacentre, and on-premise solutions.

This includes planning, implementing and providing technical support for complete on-premise to Office 365 migrations and I have expert knowledge of the Office 365 ecosystem, including Teams (including Voice), SharePoint, and OneDrive administration.

 

Workstations

Microsoft Office 2010-2022, Office 365, Windows 7-11 workstations in Workgroup and Azure/local domain-based environments. Hardware/OS level fault diagnostics, management of update/patch life cycle, drivers and Windows migrations (in-place and clean).

 

Infrastructure

Designing, building, implementing and supporting complex, multi-cluster infrastructure. System Center, SC VMM, SOFS, SANs, Clusters, AD, DNS, DHCP, GPO and RDS (single solutions and multi-RDS farm) deployment and management. Router and switch administration, network printers, VPN, RDS, TCP/IP, WAN, LAN, Wi-Fi implementation, firmware management and fault diagnosis.

 

Email

Planning, migration and extensive technical support of Microsoft Office 365. Microsoft Exchange 2010-2022, Office 365 and email archiving solutions. Daily administration of users, group permissions, and mailbox settings. My extensive experience covers planning, implementation, and update management, including DAG, high-availability and clustered environments using Azure, private cloud, datacentre, on-premise virtualised and physical servers. I also have extensive experience performing on-premise-to-cloud and cloud-to-cloud migrations to Office 365.

 

Phone Systems

I am a Certified Mitel MiVoice Office 250 engineer and have experience with the design, implementation and technical support of Mitel phone systems, network configuration and VLAN setup in single and multi-office locations as well as 3CX, Teams Voice migration and Horizon cloud solutions.
